Kemnal Hearts

We strive to provide students with a range of communication skills, both verbal and non-verbal within Drama that will help them become confident members of society and allow them to work well with others in a variety of situations and environments. Through both the reading of theoretical texts and fictional subject-based texts, students are able to engage with the full extent of the subject and develop their cultural, emotional and social awareness.

To promote a strong understanding of the broad world of drama and theatre and create a range of pathways into the subject and the different opportunities it can offer. To allow the students a chance to explore the subject from their own point of view and encourage them to find passions and interests through experimentation and play.

Pupils are introduced to texts and subject topics that are culturally diverse and allow them to think about the wider world we live in and how drama can be used as a platform to explore certain topics/issues and send positive and hopeful messages within society.

We strive to challenge pupils to step outside of their comfort zone, working with new people and building up a strong understanding of the different components of teamwork and how to combine ideas, strengths and strategies with one another in order to problem-solve and create outstanding work.

Kemnal Minds

Pupils have a strong and clear understanding of a range of different aspects to do with drama, full of subject-specific vocabulary and an understanding of how the subject contributes to and benefits society.

The skills that are taught and learnt within the subject throughout their studies are transferable and students are then able to use these skills in range of situations and take them throughout life to help support them to achieve their personal ambitions and goals.

We hope that students will acquire the ability and confidence to speak and communicate with others both formally and informally. They are able to lead discussions on different topics, using their performance skills to allow them to engage with others and provide critical feedback during discussions and debates.

When pupils leave KTC in KS4 they have the knowledge and skills that will allow them to think open-mindedly and be understanding, empathetic members of society. They will have an awareness of the differing backgrounds within society and how they can contribute to a kind, equal and welcoming society through their people and communication skills.
