Expectations After Easter

Following on from my initial correspondence, it has been my pleasure to be able to meet with many students and staff at the College over the past few weeks and it goes without saying that I am incredibly excited to begin my role as Headteacher after Easter.

As we approach this new chapter together, I would like to take this opportunity to share some key information and reinforce my expectations to ensure a smooth and successful start for everyone.

Uniform Expectations

To promote a sense of pride and unity within our school community, all students are expected to adhere to the following uniform guidelines:

Clothing
  • Black blazer with the College badge (must be worn at all times).
  • Black tailored trousers (no tight-fitting trousers or shorts).
  • Black panelled skirt with pleats (length must be no shorter than 10 cm above the knee).
  • White shirt to be worn with a College tie.
  • Black V-neck jumper (optional but must be plain).
  • Plain black or white ankle socks or tights (these should not be worn together).
  • Plain black flat shoes (no trainers or shoes resembling trainers).
  • Waterproof coat (hoodies are not permitted).
  • A suitable College bag (large enough to carry books and essential school materials).
Jewellery and Make-Up
  • Watches are encouraged to support students’ punctuality (smartwatches are not permitted).
  • Students may wear up to two small stud earrings (one per ear lobe). Facial piercings are not permitted.
  • Make-up should not be worn, including false eyelashes or fashion accessories such as coloured contact lenses.
  • No nail varnish or false nails are permitted.

It is important that parents and students are aware that students will be removed from lessons until uniform infringements are rectified.

Behaviour Expectations
Detentions

Kemnal Technology College sets out the detention policy in the Behaviour policy. Students are expected to sit detention on the same day as they are given. If a student fails to complete a detention it will be escalated as follows;

  • Missed 30 minute detention = 60 minute detention the following day
  • Missed 60 minutes = Following day in the reflection room until 4pm.
Phones

At Kemnal Technology College, we have a strict "Never Used, Seen, or Heard" policy regarding mobile phones and accessories. This means that mobile devices and related items must not be visible or in use at any time during the school day. If a student’s phone or accessories are seen, they will be confiscated immediately, and the following graduated sanctions will apply:

  • First Offence The item will be confiscated, and the student may collect it at the end of the school day.
  • Second Offence The item will be confiscated. The student will receive a C3 – 30-minute after-school detention. A parent or guardian must collect the item from the school. If this is not possible immediately, the item will be securely stored until collection.
  • Further Offences The item will be confiscated. The student will receive a C3 – 30-minute after-school detention. A parent or guardian must attend a meeting before the item is returned. If a student refuses to comply with these rules, they will be removed from lessons and placed in the Reflection Room until 4 pm the same day. We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations to ensure a focused and disruption-free learning environment.
Truancy

We appreciate the support of parents and carers in reinforcing the importance of attendance in lessons and punctuality. Attendance and punctuality are essential for student success. If a student is found to be truanting (not in their scheduled lesson without permission), the following sanctions will apply:

  • The student will receive a C3 – 30-minute after-school detention for each incident of truancy.
  • This detention must be served on the same day.
  • Failure to attend the detention will result in escalation in line with the College’s Behaviour Policy, leading to further sanctions.
School Entry Procedure after Easter

Starting from our return after the Easter break, all students must enter the school via the front gate on Sevenoaks Way.

  • The gate will be open for students from 8 am
  • Members of the Senior Leadership Team and the wider staff body will be on duty from this time to support and supervise students as they arrive.
Communication with the College

We remain committed to maintaining effective communication with parents and carers. However, as I am sure you will appreciate, schools are busy working environments, and staff may not always be immediately available to meet without prior arrangement. To avoid any disappointment or frustration, we kindly ask that parents book an appointment by emailing the relevant member of staff. Appointments can be arranged by calling the school or emailing the relevant member of staff. Please note that staff have up to 48 school hours to respond to calls or emails, unless it is a safeguarding matter, in which case urgent action will be taken. However, staff will always endeavour to respond at their earliest opportunity. Parents that arrive at the school without a scheduled appointment may be refused entry.

Site Access Reminders

Parents must not access the College site to drop off students, unless a special arrangement is in place. Additionally, please do not drop off students and block the entry gates on Sevenoaks Way as this poses a serious safety risk to vehicles entering and exiting the site.Letter re Expectations after Easter 2025
