Our Awards
The Jack Petchey Achievement Award Scheme is our flagship programme which recognises outstanding young people aged 11 to 25 across London and Essex. Groups on the scheme get to celebrate the achievements of young people and apply for a package of grants, worth up to £6,400 per year, to support their activities.
Who is Jack Petchey?
Sir Jack Petchey was an incredible inspiration to everyone who works at the Foundation. Even at 98 he took an active interest in the running of the charity, as do the rest of his family who share his vision.
He was born into a working class family in the poorer East End of London in 1925, left school at 13 and then joined the Navy in 1943 as World War II raged. After leaving the Navy, he began working as a clerk for a solicitor’s firm. He applied for management training but was told he would never make a businessman.
Instead of giving up, Sir Jack used the £39 he was given from the Navy to buy a second hand car and started a small taxi business. Through hard work and innovative thinking, he proved them wrong and built a multi-million-pound empire.
Sir Jack’s experiences led to his passion to increase young peoples’ aspirations by rewarding their achievements.
In 2016, Sir Jack received his knighthood from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his many years of charitable work.
“Some people say I’ve been lucky, but a lot of success is about having courage to make decisions and take advantage of opportunities."
The Diana Award was founded on the late Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change their community, their country and the world. We exist to empower young people to make that positive change. We do this by:
Unlocking Potential
With support, guidance and opportunities every young person can reach their full potential, ensuring no young person is left out or left behind.
Creating Opportunities
Young people deserve a seat at the table to shape decisions about our shared future. Their voice enriches decision-making and inspires us all to do more and do better.
Inspiring Action
With the right support and advocacy, young people have the passion, energy and insight to lead the change they want to see, for themselves, their communities and the world around them.

Our school is delighted to have been awarded funding through Tesco’s Stronger Starts Fruit and Veg Grant. This generous support will help us provide fresh, healthy produce for our pupils, encouraging positive eating habits and supporting their overall wellbeing.
The grant will enable us to offer a wider variety of fruit and vegetables during the school day, helping children to explore new tastes and learn more about nutritious food choices. We know that access to healthy snacks can make a real difference to concentration, energy levels, and long-term health, and this initiative will play an important role in supporting our pupils both in and out of the classroom.
We are incredibly grateful to Tesco, your support is helping us create a healthier future for our children.
